Penny Walk and Science Fair Results

On Saturday, Feb 4, two of our students represented SJS very well at the St. Mary's County Science and Engineering Fair. One was awarded the prestigious Wyle Laboratories Award: 1st Place Junior Division Engineering Award in Applied Aerospace Principles. She was presented with a certificate and a cash award. Congratulations!

As part of our weeklong Catholic Schools Week celebration, our school participated in a "Penny Walk". Students in grades Pre-K through 8 collected coins to raise money for the Sisters of The Institute Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara, a religious community of Marian devotion. Students were challenged to collect enough coins to wrap around the entire gymnasium. Students' enthusiasm and generosity helped them cover the perimeter of the gym four times over and then went on to line the basketball lines on the gym floor.
In total, $1149.73 was raised. In addition to a few Canadian coins and a Bermuda quarter, we collected:

  • 2 Dollars coins
  • 1 Half Dollar coin
  • 1,860 Quarters
  • 2,788 Dimes
  • 1,892 Nickels
  • 22,133 Pennies

Community Dinner and Talent Show

St. John's ended Catholic Schools week with a Dinner and Talent Show on Saturday night. Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Miedzinski did a great job preparing the students. Thank you to Mrs. Bowser for stepping up during Mrs. Miedzinski's absence. It was an amazing event that allowed us to showcase the many talents of our SJS students. The show included 32 acts with over 50 students participating.

Special thanks go out to the HSA and everyone that helped prepare a fantastic meal. Also, we would like to thank everyone that helped clean up and get ready for the next day. This was truly a great community event and the perfect way to display our many talents that God has given.

2nd Anniversary of our School Collapse

February 6th, 2012 marks the 2 year anniversary of our school collapse. Through adversity has come great opportunity. With God's grace and the support of our wonderful community, we have renovated and rebuilt. We are rejuvenated and ready for many more years of Catholic education!

We will always remember the collapse from 2 years ago. Reminisce and spend some time in prayer thanking God for all the good He has given us. View a slideshow, created by Julie R. to remember this special day.

One year ago, Donald Cardinal Wuerl came for a special dedication ceremony for our newly rebuilt school. View some video clips, courtesy of David and Terri T. to celebrate the experience.

We've had a wonderful first year in our new school building. Spend some time viewing our Photo Gallery and Video Testimonials.

May God bless all those who have helped us get to where we are today. Many thanks!
