Car Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

Welcome back to school! Remember we have new car pick up procedures. Please see the information and map below.

Car Drop Off Procedures

Please enter through the cemetery drive. Staff and Safety Patrol will be there to help guide you. They will stop you and open the door for your child to exit the car. Please make sure your child's backpack is in the car with them. (Do not put it in the trunk.) Please do not get out of your car. Do not park your car along the cemetery in the front parking lot. This is a bus lane and our buses need a wide radius for turning. There are signs posted: "No Parking between 7am - 3pm". Always follow the staff instructions and remember school buses always have the right of way.

Car Pick Up Procedures

Please enter through the cemetery drive. Turn to the right and curve around the back parking lot. Please line up in the 1st row of parking spots. When that row is filled, start row 2. When that row is filled, start row 3, and continue for the rest of the rows. We estimate we can get 7-8 cars in a row.

There will be SJS staff to help you. Please follow their instructions.

When students are ready for pick up, (after the buses leave) all the cars in row 1 will proceed to the center doors of the Monsignor Harris Center, followed by row 2, row 3, etc.

At no time are cars permitted to stop at the end of the cemetery drive and wait for the rows of cars to go by. Please get into the line and follow the instructions of SJS staff. This will help ensure that there will not be cars sitting on St. John's Road and causing traffic problems.

At no time during the school day should cars be parked along the cemetery in the main parking lot. The school buses need a large radius to turn. There are signs posted stating, "NO PARKING BETWEEN 7am - 3pm". You never know when a bus will be here for field trips, etc., so please do not park there during the day.

As always, we encourage students to ride the bus if they can!

Please see below for a detailed map.

Come Experience St. John's School!

Shadow Day!

A shadow visit is a great way to explore and learn more about St. John's School. The best way for you to determine whether St. John's School is right for your child is to schedule a time for your child to shadow a St. John's School student. We will be having a Shadow Day on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012. Your child will get to meet the students that will be in his/her class and see what a typical day at St. John's School is like. He/she can spend a few hours or a whole day accompanying a student to class. Most of the students at the school knew, after shadowing, that this was the place for them.

All potential students are invited to come and spend the day with future friends at St. John's. We hope that your child can join us for this unique opportunity. If April 3rd is not convenient, feel free to contact the secretary at the office anytime to schedule a Shadow Day! (301) 373 - 2142 or office@sjshollywood.org.

Guidelines to Spend a Day with an SJS Student

Arrangements to shadow must be made through the Office. Please indicate on your permission form if you would like to shadow a particular student/grade. Below are some other guidelines to help you plan for your visit:

Drop Off: Students should check in at the Office by 8:00 a.m.

Pick Up: Students should be picked up from the Office at 3:00 p.m.

Dress: If students attend a Catholic elementary school, they should wear their school uniform. Otherwise, student visitors should wear slacks and a collared shirt. Girls may wear a skirt; however, it must (at least) touch the top of the knee.

Lunch: will be provided compliments of SJS unless students choose to bring one from home. (Please note, lunch on April 3rd will be Turkey Club or Chef Salad, chips, and an apple.)

To view the Permission Form, click here.

Penny Walk and Science Fair Results

On Saturday, Feb 4, two of our students represented SJS very well at the St. Mary's County Science and Engineering Fair. One was awarded the prestigious Wyle Laboratories Award: 1st Place Junior Division Engineering Award in Applied Aerospace Principles. She was presented with a certificate and a cash award. Congratulations!

As part of our weeklong Catholic Schools Week celebration, our school participated in a "Penny Walk". Students in grades Pre-K through 8 collected coins to raise money for the Sisters of The Institute Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara, a religious community of Marian devotion. Students were challenged to collect enough coins to wrap around the entire gymnasium. Students' enthusiasm and generosity helped them cover the perimeter of the gym four times over and then went on to line the basketball lines on the gym floor.
In total, $1149.73 was raised. In addition to a few Canadian coins and a Bermuda quarter, we collected:

  • 2 Dollars coins
  • 1 Half Dollar coin
  • 1,860 Quarters
  • 2,788 Dimes
  • 1,892 Nickels
  • 22,133 Pennies
