Library Deposit Collection Program

The St. John’s School Library has joined the

St. Mary’s County Library Deposit Collection Program!

St. John’s now has its own library card! We have just been accepted as a participant in the St. Mary’s County Library Deposit Collection Program (DCP). Through this program, the SMC Library will loan a “batch” of approximately 40 books to the SJS Library for 5-6 weeks. The books will have a paper wrapper indicating that they are Deposit Collection books and will be shelved in a special section in the SJS library. SJS students may check out DCP books from the SJS Library for a two-week loan period. Students must return the DCP books to the SJS Library, not to the SMC Library. At the end of the school’s loan period, St. John’s will return the batch of books to the SMC Library and exchange them for a new batch of loaned books.

This is an exciting way to offer current non-fiction and fiction books to our students as we continue to rebuild our own library holdings. There is no charge to participate in this program, although students are financially responsible for any books that are damaged or lost while checked out to the student. Students must make sure they turn their books in on time so that we can maximize book availability for other students and so we can return all the books as a batch at the end of the school’s loan period. We should get out first batch of books before Thanksgiving.
